The stars shine bright but seem so far,
They appear so different then what they are.
Beautiful, glistening diamonds tempting the heart,
Yet in reality they are only cold rocks, falling apart.
The night sky beckons and calls out my name,
To reach to the lights, to shed all my shame.
They twinkle and dance, like sirens do call,
Yet, I know if I jump, I surely will fall.
I reach up, believing I can catch that one star,
Yet knowing to well I will never reach that far.
Perception and dreams weave a deadly dream,
They distort the truth, masking what needs to be seen.
So my feet stay planted, here, by my balcony wall,
I know I can’t fly, so I never will fall.
The stars will continue to sing and to dance,
Someday, I will touch one, someday by chance.
